This year's Christmas Letter is in the form of a twitter page. It is being tweeted in December, one line an afternoon, by Bette Lynn's account, @twitwidow.

If you want the tweets in one batch, here it is in the format of the old style of a twitter page.

Includes photos on the second page of the PDF file. God is with us, with you and with all!

The Good One

The Tool Ark

Like a Workshop Noah, if my Dad had anything; he had at least two of them. From several wrench sets to two arc welders, he had the the good one and the other one.

Sometimes, he just wanted one tool for the basement workshop and another for the garage, (and maybe one for the car). Other times there was a good deal on a tool and he bought them all. Or one tool was not quite perfect, but not quite worn out, so he bought another but kept the old for sacrificial projects.

My brothers and I learned early that not only could we borrow tools, but when borrowing, to always ask for "the good one". Usually, we didn't know what the good one was but Dad knew, and that is the one he gave us.

If someone tells you that God gave them them something bad, from an earthquakes to blunt screwdriver, remember my Dad, for like all good parents, God always gives "the good one".

Hope you always give your best to God and God's children.

Giving Good Gifts

"Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" - Matthew 7:7-11

Good For Nothing?

May Still Be Good for Others

This is a photo of my wife and daughter leaving on a cross country trip. They are fine, but the car was wrecked and totalled less than 90 days after this picture was taken.

My daughter, Rachel, was driving with her friends when she lost control of the car and it flipped over. No was was seriously hurt as they hung suspended upside-down. Rachel had made everyone put on their safety belts before starting, a iron rule in our family as she was growing up. She was buckled in almost daily for over 20 years before it made a difference.

Recently, I learned that as the car was flipping over, Rachel's frightened friend looked to her figuring she would know what to do. Rachel had wrapped her arm around her face in case the windshield shattered. Her friend imitated her. The windshield held, but the passenger side window exploded all over her friend. But since her friend had her face covered, just her elbow was bloodied. Her arm had protected her face and eyes.

Rachel buckled her safety belt and made others do so for decades before it made a dfference. But she also protected her face and eyes for just seconds. This didn't make a difference for her, but might have saved the eyesight of her friend who looked to her for the right way to act.

When I think I might be okay for me to take a risk or that I could survive temptation...I think of the frightened friend that looked to Rachel and how what she saw in Rachel kept her from losing her sight.
A Good Imitation

Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but imitate what is good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. - 3 John 1:11

Speegle's 60th Anniversary Prayer
Saturday, January 1, 2011, 04:00 PM - Family, Prayers
Posted by Administrator
My in-laws, Bruce & Kathryn Speegle, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary New Year's Day. (They were married on New Year's Eve because the rent was paid starting January 1st.)

Here's the prayer I offered:
God of Generations
Giver of Love,
Guarantor of Relationship
Thank you for the love of Kathryn and Bruce
that brought them together sixty years ago
and brings us together tonight.

May the love they share be a blessing to us
and those we love; tonight, and throughout our lives.
as your love holds us safely through eternity.
Amen
